Warning! Will Robinson. Warning! The Robot Guitar Is Coming! The Robot Guitar Is Coming!

Gibson Robot Guitar

First Gibson went high tech with its digital guitar, now it is going Inspector Gadget with its “Robot Guitar.” No, it doesn't play the guitar for you mechanically, but it does do something quite cool. It tunes itself automatically. At first I thought “Nice trick, but how hard is it to tune?” Then I watched the instruction video on the Gibson website and found out that it does more than just automatically tune to standard tuning.

The Robot Guitar also does popular alternate tunings automatically. Theses are real, physical tunings, not the virtual tuning like the Variax and Stratocaster VG. You get: Open E, DADGAD, Dropped D, Open G (DGDGBD), E Flat (down a half step), and Double Dropped D ( D,A,E,G,B,D). If you like, you can create your own tuning and save it in any of the factory slots (overwriting the factory tuning.) If that isn't enough, the Robot Guitar will also check your intonation and tell you how many screw turns you need to make on the tune-o-matic bridge — including which direction to turn. Pretty slick. And to make sure everyone knows you are using the latest Les Paul wonder guitar, the master control knob has colorful LED lights that glow while tuning.

I don't imagine the Robot Guitar will be cheap. What Gibson is? But for those well-off players who love both guitars and gadgets, here is you dream come true. Coming December 07 2007, just in time for Christmas.
