Guitar Spotlight: Gibson ES-339

Mark Starlin - September 19, 2007

This is the first in a series of guitar “spotlight” blog entries. I will pick guitars that are new, interesting, beautiful, unusual, or just plain cool looking. I chose the Gibson ES-339 as my first pick.

Gibson ES-339 30/60 Neck Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar Light Caramel Burst

The ES-339 a new model for Gibson and look like a winner. Basically a scaled down ES-335, the ES-339 is similar in body size to a Les Paul. It’s got ‘57 Classic Humbuckers, a lacquer finish, and comes in two neck sizes — a slim ‘60s style or a chunkier ‘59 style. The smaller body size should make it lighter and more comfortable to play than a full sized ES-335. It also has Gibson’s new Memphis Tone Circuit, which claims to preserve the guitar’s high frequencies regardless of how you adjust the volume control. All cool stuff. Plus it just looks good.
