  5. With all modeling amps it is a challenge to create real guitar legend tones, and this is the main reason these amps get a bad review and are re-sold. When I had purchased my AX2 I was impressed by the Line 6 artist presets, and after creating some of my own user presets that could mirror the tones of Eric Johnson and SRV I realized I had something special! It is the best compliment when all my friends want to know how I can get all of these wonderful tones.

  8. You must have the ability to create and know how to build your sound with multiple layers of effects.

  11. You have to be very careful with these amps, these are not hardwood cabinets, however they are built well.

  7. Both models are essentially the same with the exception of added FX and a bit more programmability. Great amp, that basically lasts a year of every other day performance. I used both models in various studio applications, and on at least 1 Gold Record but; the problem with these amps tend to be 2 ceramics (LM3886TF.) That must be replaced both at the same time “old headlight vs. new headlight.” Concerns are always based on operating temperatures, it is always tricky when you’re dealing with software and heat. I have used this companie’s products when they first hit the market, and I am currently using the Vetta Combo. You have to consider possible limitations.

  13. Axsys 212 construction was designed more for convenience. The slant design for control knobs is cute but, makes them more accessible to damage. The cabinets are sturdy, and do not flinch. The open back design works well but with the Axsys, there is a thinner 1/4 panel in the rear that can be deceptively fragile. This was corrected with the AX2 design.

  6. I had nothing but problems, finally had to almost give it away. My guitar player is currently using a Vetta and has been experiencing thermal issues. I switched to Hughes and Kettner and couldn’t be happier. Way better tone, and does not break all the time. A piece of crap.

  12. Too many problems, very unreliable. It is primarily due to the fact the Line 6 uses the cheapest possible components and offshore labor, you get what you pay for.

  4. After 25 years of acoustic, I decided to form a whole band and go electric. What a brave, new world. The amounts of gadgets blew me away. We did a variety of music, so I was at the music store every week for a month trying new boxes, multi-effects floor and rack units, etc., until I read an ad for this amp that “cloned” multiple amps and included usable effects. Many of the 128 sounds are usable. It’s easy to program your own sounds after reading the descriptive (and simplified) manual. The acoustic and 12 string sounds are volume weak but you are able to select from a variety of preamp models to effectively “boost” the volume. If you’re in a variety band, (Beatles to SRV) it would be very worthwhile locking yourself in a music stores playroom and switching between presets for a few hours. Many are better than more expensive rack units (ie, Digitech 2112!). This is a for real unit w/100 watts of power too! I prefer it over their 60 watt unit.

  7. The tone is very adjustable since their are so many features built in, EQ, compression, other normal stuff found in a typical multi-effects box. It ranges from early Fender clean w/no effects to metallic Soldano’s to a cranky Vox and overdriven Marshall. A few others in there too! They’re not perfect tube amp simulations but MUCH better than many solid states and even better than some tubes I’ve heard.

  10. OK, if there’s a weak point in this unit, its definitely the styling. The front of the unit has been improved a little but I have the 1st year model. Colors were different, mine is black tolex sides, top and bottom, green/black control panel and grey grill cloth. Once Line 6 dials in a decent design, this will be a formidable amp on stage. The construction is solid, I’ve played it for 2 years now, moving it to gigs weekly and have only had one glitch, due to a dirty jack.

  5. I do a lot of work with harmonics. I often focus between notes. This amplifier supplies harmonically interesting sounds. I like it. But... I bought the AX2 212 in a pawn shop for 500ish. I played this model with astonishment and ease. The upgrade kit and footswitch evolved the idea further. A few months later the amp had a glitch and would not come out of tuner mode. My $1000 tuner, I can fix it. I changed the old and new chips around and had the same problem. I then accidentally broke one of the chip legs in the plug. My $1000 paper weight. YEARS later I decided to fix the amp. I assumed a high price. My AX2 212 went to Field Services of Phoenix Arizona. Line 6 replaced the broken chip for free. I registered many years ago even though I bought it used. They still honored their product unconditionally. I am playing again. I really haven’t played guitar for about two years. I can hear how my ears have grown. I listen between the notes. This product is satisfying.

  8. Honest guitar/pickup tone. This is how the guitar you are playing sounds through these different amps. Fun. Clean (Noise clean) operation unless faulty cords or instrument.

  4. The Line 6 amp works as well as it claims it does. There are a lot of bells and whistles on this amp which happens to be laid out in a logical fashion. You do need to spend at least twenty minutes with the manual to get acquainted with them but it will be well worth it. The manual is actually laid out very well and includes a pull out diagram of the presets showing their location and artists sounds. The foot pedal has a volume and wah pedal — both work well enough.

  7. The tones this amp is capable of producing are impressive, my personal favorites are the black panels. The Line 6 does a remarkable job of modeling the Fender Twin Reverb. I also enjoy the Marshall JCM 800, Mesa Boogie, and SLO Soldano amps the Line 6 has to offer. The Line 6 offers a acoustic simulator which is pretty good, good enough if you don’t have a acoustic handy. This amp is very loud, and it really cuts through bass and drums — and sings. I have read different descriptions in other sites describing the sound quality of the amp models offered in the Line 6. I can honestly say that Line 6 has come really close and I mean really close to replicating the amp tones in some the amps I have listed. I only say “amps I have listed” because these are amp models I am familiar with. In conclusion all of the amp models do sound great though, and are really worth a listen.

  10. The amp itself is built quite well. It feels solid, so does the foot pedal The look of the amp is not really that appealing but it gets the job done. I have had some problems with the foot pedal not switching like it should, but that problem seemed to have cured itself. The cord that connects the foot pedal to the amp is flimsy at its connections but performs its function. All in all, I am more than pleased with the Line6 AX2-212 and if your in the market for a new amp give it a listen you might be surprised too.
