This thing is insane. It’s incredibly loud, as can be expected from a half stack. It’s very easy to use, as once I took it out of the box I was quickly able to get a good tone from it. I can go from a Jimmy Page-esque sound to a 80s sound to a grunge sound with very little effort on my part. The effects are pretty easy to use as well, and you can get good reverbs, flanges, choruses and delays. And since Marshall promises that it can sound as good as a tube amp, and it certainly does, this amplifier fulfills Marshall's promises.

The tone is incredible. The acoustic simulator doesn’t sound really like an acoustic but it still has a nice tone that’s fun to play around with, and it sounds closer to an acoustic than all clean channels do that I’ve played on. The clean channel sort of lacks but it is probably because I haven’t played around with it too much. Overdrive 1 is the best distorted sound I’ve heard. The amount of gain they allow is insane, and after you go past 6 or so it becomes excessive and pointless. Overdrive two is supposed to give you a so called “nu metal” sound, which translates in my mind to muddiness. I found that it gives very good lead tone, but it feeds back a lot. It also becomes redundant if you put the gain past 6 or so. Also on the overdrive channels there is a scoop switch which lets you go between a 70s sort of sound and a more modern sound. But yeah, the tone is incredible. It’s a lot better than the Vox I had before, the Crate and Peavey’s my friends have that I play on occasion, the Marshall MG series I’ve tried out, and countless other amps I’ve played along the way. But yeah, if you are into hard rock or metal, electric blues, grunge, or basically anything heavy, this amp is a good choice. Personally, I can’t tell the difference between this and the more expensive JCM series.

I try not to move it around much, but it seems built really well. It is after all Marshall. I have yet to have any problems with this amp as well. The head looks about as sturdy as a head can be, and the cabinet I got for it looks fine. Its kind of new so this is hard to judge.
