The JMP-1 preamp is very easy to use. The only think that’s not excellent about the design is the patch/multi selection knob; that’s way too light to turn, so you end up jumping many patches at once, and it’s hard to select just the right number without being careful. Other than that it’s simply great, and I use a MIDI pedal to control it anyway.

The real tubes give you four classic Marshall sounds; you can make it sound like a modern clean Marshall, a bluesbreaker or go for 800-series or old plexis. No ultra-distortions though, so for metal etc. you’ll need some accessories or pedals. All in all, it isn’t that impressive on its own; you’ll need a nice power amp and cabinet to really understand this one’s potential. Since it has a rather good speaker-emulated line output and full MIDI control, this unit is a dream for a basis to build your rack system around. Mine has a BOSS-SE50 adding various things, a Behringer D/I mox with another Sp-emulator, a HUSH unit and a 120w rackhead. Oh those open chords; unbelievable bottom and crunch yet every note is audible and clear.

I’ve had it for a few years, bought it used, and so far it’s worked like a dream. Solid construction, no cheap plastics.
