Marshall 1987XL

Marshall 1987XL

  1. Name: Shawn

  2. Model Year: 1996

  3. Performance

  4. 50 watt Plexi re-issue, straight forward rock amp, with some versatility as you can jump channel 1 (high treble) and channel 2 (normal) and blend the two different tone characteristics of each channel. This amp is designed so that the volume acts more like a tone knob, but this is very easy and cheap to fix by by-passing a cap on the volume pot. I was told Marshall did this so that the amp had more bass when volume was turned down low, but all it did in my eyes was make it a fully cranked Marshall with the volume on 1.

  5. Performance Rating: 9

  6. Sound Quality

  7. Think of FREE — All Right Now, AC/DC, VAN HALEN, all the classic sounds are in this amp with a little tweaking. Classic Marshall tone.

  8. Sound Quality Rating: 10

  9. Construction

  10. Built like a tank, never had a problem. Recently had it checked by an amp tech to check out if everything was auk just because of its age. He said that although it is P.C.B. and not P.T.P., it is built to last a lifetime internally due to the large thickness of the circuit board.

  11. Construction Rating: 10
