Clean: 7/10: Bell like clean, but slightly cold. Not great for rhythm. A bit too piercing. Distortion: 5.4/10: Harsh and cold. Little definition. Great for a crunchy riff, but for lead? Forget it! Could see it being used for metal maybe. I actually sold it to a metal head. He’s pleased. I bought a Marshall AVT2000 AVT50. It’s smaller, lighter, sounds awesome, and the clean tone is so warm. The distortion is typical Led Zeppelin, going straight through to Iron Maiden’s the wicker man. Awesome.

Very reliable. Bought it when I had no experience with amps because 1) Marshall’s are reliable, and 2) it was loud. Good amp, just not what I wanted it for.

This is a very well featured 80w amplifier. Along with two channels, (each channel has an additional overdrive switch) contour control on the boost channel, 3 band EQ for each channel, an effects loop w/mix, master volume control, spring reverb, CD input, line out jack for PA and jack to run another speaker cabinet. It comes with a channel and reverb footswitch. This amplifier does not have a headphone jack. The amp is relatively easy to use and the controls are well displayed. The manual is very sketchy, giving only features ID, suggested settings and little else. However, if you sit down and experiment with this amp you will begin to discover a wealth of tones.

The clean channel is adequate and very good for a Marshall amplifier. If you spend some time with the channel gain and the master volume controls, this amp delivers a very pleasing tone at a volume you can perform at. With the crunch button set, a nice bluesy tone can be established that responds to your pick attack, but unlike a tube amp, there is a fine line between just right and too loud and harsh. The boost channel really delivers. This is where this amp is at its best. OD1 gives a nice classic rock sound and a decent blues tone. When set properly it can give a clean sound as well and is a very good channel for running effects through the FX loop. The OD2 delivers close to tube distortion when dialed in properly. The contour control is very good. However be cautious here and do some homework because when pushed too hard, this channel can become too muddy sounding with no separation/definition at all.
The spring reverb is adequate at best, but it is useable and can produce some nice tones, but it can also sound thin. This amp can be played at very loud volumes and will work as a main performance amplifier, or for recording. It is an excellent practice amp. For a solid state, this is a very good amplifier but falls down a little when compared to a tube amp at performance volume levels. However, if you are looking for a hassle free, no tube amp that can sound very good with a little effort on your part, this is an amplifier to consider.

This is a Korean made unit. The cabinet is made of particle board, but is covered with black Marshall elephant vinyl, speaker cloth and hardware and appears to be well assembled. The 12" speaker is made to Marshall specs in Korea, but has a good tone. The amp weighs in at 50+lbs. which seems like a lot for this size amplifier. The control knobs have a nice solid feel and turn freely without any noise. Overall this is a very good amplifier for the money and I expect to get many years of service from it.
