  5. Performance

  6. For an amp that looks so small and yet weighs a ton, the Mesa/Boogie Mark IV Combo is an absolutely monster amp. It is easily loud enough for any musical situation (I have no problems in a power trio even after I ask the drummer to slam and the bassist to crank). The instruction guide makes it fairly easy to set some general tones but it can definitely get confusing once you start twisting knobs. I bought this amp without even trying it at the store, going by Mesa/Boogie’s reputation alone, and I wasn’t disappointed. After three years, I’m still not disappointed.

  7. Performance Rating: 10

  8. Sound Quality

  9. Sonically, this amp has so many different possibilities. Having said that, the tone has been excellent. I play a ‘95 Strat Plus with 3 Gold Lace Sensors, D’Addario .009’s and use a Zoom 4040. I really can’t say enough good things about this amp. The clean tones are what you’d expect from a Fender Twin, and all the overdrive tones are usable and wonderful.

  10. Sound Quality Rating: 10

  11. Construction

  12. It appears very well made, and is nearly as heavy as my old Peavey Deuce 2x12 combo amp. It gets at least 12 hours of use weekly (rehearsals) plus 4-6 hours weekly gigging, and aside from the strange fuse-blowing incident when I first got it, has given no further problems. I’m not going to mince words here. The Mark IV Combo’s construction is first-class.

  13. Construction Rating: 10
