  6. This is a little amp with huge power, playable from living rooms till clubs, or even bigger stages if miked well. As for my knowledge Fender does not sell many amps of this size, maybe the 25 watter Deluxe reverb, but that is a different category. In the tweed dept. it is just in-between the Blues Jr. and the Deluxe, which perfectly fits my needs.

  9. Very nice mellow, rich and saturated clean sound, which you can crank at higher volume, or by the use of anything with a volume pot placed in the effect loop. I'm not that happy with the drive tone tough, and don't much use it, except at home on lower volume, instead of pedals. It somehow lacks the depth of the clean channel. I can tweak a good sound of it with different settings than the clean channel, but then, channel switching is useless. The Boost function is just useless without pedal control. 8 for the clean sound, as I somehow still miss the transparency of Fender amps' tone.

  12. The tube rattle thing is a drag indeed, it comes from the power tubes, being too close to the speaker, but can be fixed quite easily with a tube tamer, you can get from ebay. Mine is the older model, which I prefer to the new design, and has a tube guard, but it hinders easy access to tubes. Never had to replace them during gig so far, luckily. The box is very well constructed, and the weight is just at the limit I can carry around between the stage, boot and home triangle. I'd prefer real cloth tweed than vinyl, but the little thing sure looks great on stage.

  6. The amp had excessive noise from tube rattle. Peavey claimed all amps do this and that’s what you get. Nothing wrong with it. I returned it and got a Fender Deluxe. No rattle.

  9. Tone seemed pretty good if you could get that rattling out of it.

  12. Seemed okay for construction. No standby switch, no tube guards. I expected better from an American made product.

  6. For me this is great tube sound for little money. Controls simple, yet very versatile.

  9. This amp has a fat midrange, great overdrive. EL84 tubes seem to have that quality. It’s a little noisy but not enough to be annoying. 30 watts which seem enough for small clubs.

  12. So far no problems. This is an affordable, well thought out American made product. A few corners have been cut, with no standby switch, a no-name speaker, and the tubes have no guard. However the vinyl “tweed” is probably more practical and it has corner protectors, and a chrome amp housing and seems like a sturdy cabinet with no buzzes.

  6. This amp is all about tone! The Classic 30 has some great qualities for the price. The spring reverb is smooth, you can switch between clean and crunch(per foot switch), the tones are full, and the general appearance is nice. It’s light in weight.

  9. I use both a Vantage semi-hollow body, and a Tele-plus. Both with humbucking pickups. If you are playing jazzy rock/funk, this is a great amp for the size. It has deep, full tones. It is loud enough for the club scene (but a mic will help for wider sound. The reverb is smooth. The general sustain of this amp is also impressive.

  12. The tubes are not protected, so you have to be careful. It is light in weight, which is key for a bad back. It looks great and overall feels pretty sturdy. I bought this second hand, and it seems to be holding up very well.

  6. This amp is pretty simple, 30 watts: 3 12AX7’s in the Preamp although a person can also use a 12AT7 or a 12AU7 for less gain and 4 EL84’s. Called the Classic 30 and it indeed looks classic, tweed covering is nice looking. It is louder than one may think. I play in small to medium sized bars, I mic the amp when the room is too big. Or else I use the 112se extension cab. It’s light, fairly versatile and is easily replaceable if stolen.

  7. Performance Rating: 10

  8. Sound Quality

  9. Nice tones in the clean channel, very glassy with the tubes I have used: 2 Tesla 12AX7A’s (one in the 1st position of the preamp the other as the power amp driver) and a NOS Phillips 12AX7A in the second preamp position. With my strat the amp retains the strat tones that I get from the rhythm channel in the lead channel, with a humbucking guitar it grunts pretty good. A note: this amp has a little to much high end for my tastes so I keep the treble at 5 or lower and boost the high end with an EQ when I want a chimey tone.

  10. Sound Quality Rating: 8

  11. Construction

  12. Peavey isn’t exactly known for high quality construction but mine has been great, no cabinet buzzing or anything like that (that goes for the extension also.) The tubes are NOT PROTECTED, so be careful. My problem with Peavey is the piece of crap foot switch... it’s chinsey plastic and should be included in the price of the amp, not $30 extra.
