  6. I tried it out in the store, and granted, I couldn’t crank it there (I need to know how it’s going to “thud” at high volume and how it’s going to sound before I buy it), but so far, so good. Although I’m going to have to crank it before I buy it. I don’t make tons of money, so even $560 is pretty steep for me (I personally cannot fathom paying in excess of $1000 for an amp), but I do want to have something with some good usable effects. This amp cleans up for me, keeping what I consider “useless” effects (like pitch shifter, delay, wah, and reverb) to a minimum, and maximizing the effects I need and love (chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, and Leslie). I use a Dunlop 535 for wah, and a Ernie Ball Volume for distortion variations. I have used a Peavey Bandit 112 for about 5 years now, and it has never given me one bit of trouble. I just want a lot of variation, ease of use and some good effects too. I think this will probably be my last purchase for a while, so I need it to be a good value. This amp looks to be a winner. The 50 watt rating is silly to me, but I am going to slave my Bandit to it for a total of 150 watts, and that is gonna rock.

  8. Sound Quality

  9. Most of the sounds I built are great. The presets are lousy for the most part (I had to turn off the reverb/delay instantly and that “fixed” most of the presets enough for me to play with them a little). I like to mess around with delay sometimes, but it usually sounds too “80’s“ for me. Some of my favorite guitarists include Brian May, Randy Rhoads, “Pre-1993” James Hetfield, Steve Howe, Ty Tabor, Tommy Shaw, James Young, “Sepultura-era” Max Calvera, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Sholtz, and Terry Kath. So, basically, with a few exceptions, most of my favorites used little/no reverb or delay. I like the effects and the ease of use on this amp. The foot pedal control is great, and I like the heavy duty stomp buttons (something I look for on a footswitch).

  11. Construction

  12. The construction is great. Peavey knows how to build tough stuff. I accidentally dropped my Bandit from chest level to the ground a few years ago and it still works fine to this very day, so I trust the quality level.

  6. The Peavy Transformers are modeling amps. The amp does a surprisingly good job at what it does. It comes with sixteen factory presets and sixteen user presets. It has a very versatile foot pedal, which lets you change all sorts of effects, even within a single preset. There is something of a learning curve, but no more than you would expect. The only drawback is the tuner, which stinks. A good tuner would have been nice, as it would makes things much simpler. It also took me some time to find just the sound I wanted, but I had never used a modeling amp before and, frankly, I don’t have the best ear in the business. So I can’t knock it for that.

  8. Sound Quality

  9. The Transformer has twelve different amp emulations. Four are Fender, four are Marshal and four are vintage Peavey. I prefer the fender, but have found good sounds on all emulations. You can also use any speaker setup with any cabinet sound. There aren’t as many options as with the Fender Cyber Twin, but neither is it as many dollars. I like it really well. Of course, the purists won’t like it because it is not a tube amp and it is an emulator amp. So if that is what you want, the Transformer is not for you. But if you want a variety of sounds for a reasonable price, this is for you. Plenty of volume for practice, and I run the amp through the sound system in larger venues.

  11. Construction

  12. Have only had this amp a few months, but it is lighter than my previous amp, yet it appears to be more sturdy. Have hauled it across the country without a problem. Don’t think I will have anything to worry about, there.
