This is an awesome pedal for what you are looking for. I got it because I read some reviews and they said it had a really muddy, fuzzy sound, and that’s what I wanted. You can play any sort of high gained music from this pedal, and it is simple to use, volume level, bass, treble, and gain (even though when the gain is all the way off it is still very distorted.)

The sound quality is fine, you can get plenty of different tones and stuff. The distortion is so much you sometimes can’t tell the difference between chords when you are playing so loud. But the sound quality also is determined on the amp. If you are thinking about getting this pedal, get it.

It’s made out of metal, so it won’t break. The switch is plastic, it has never broken before, even though I stomp on it so much. I play it almost every day and it hasn’t broken yet. The only thing that sometimes makes me mad is if you play a ton and pull the cords out and out again, the inputs come loose and when you play it shorts out, so I just tighten it with pliers.

I had been searching for a distortion pedal that could sound beefy and impressive and this is what I found to resemble best what I wanted back in 1994. You have to carefully tune the thing in order to make it sound good.

Like I said, you have to set the bass at about three quarters and lower the highs at about the first quarter, put the grunge distortion level up to about three quarters, the volume level is too strong though, I have to lower it down to about one third in order to make it match the clean level. It really sounds mean and nasty! It does what I want for a beefy and nasty metal rhythm sound but I’m now currently searching for another more subtle unit for my leads.

The casing is very solid (it’s steel so...). The knobs seem of a good quality and they haven’t begun to gather glitchy dust accumulation sounds when I turn them, even after all this time that I have been mistreating the poor thing. The only lacking thing is the clean/grunge effect switch! I’ve had to stomp madly on it since about day 1! A year after I bought it I opened it and soldered myself another external switch and screwed the huge doorbell switch to my effects pedal board, problem solved! It used to tick me so off when there were passages in a song where I had to switch from clean to nasty... I remember once I got out of me and threw the %?$/ on the wall... still works!

Well you have to think, the first guy was probably very overweight, because I’ve had this pedal for about 3 months and it works great! But be warned! This pedal is not for the light-hearted, and it kicks major butt if you get the settings right. This pedal is playing more of grunge found in Rage Against The Machine or The Vandals.

I wouldn’t play any Nirvana songs on it because this is a beefed up metal distortion pedal. The effect is just as described, Grunge. It’s very dirty and it sounds kinda like the live version of The Star Spangled Banner by Jimi Hendrix, and if you’re looking to get that sound, this is the pedal for you. I love the ripped, dirty tone I get out of this pedal, but the people above must of not tried it first like I did.

This pedal will never break, its housing is steel and it looks like it’s gonna last a long time if I don’t overload the circuits first.

It produces a very distinctive drive, a little on the high side but it handles harmonics well. It does not produce a “grunge” sound as such in that there is very little transition between clean and dirty. That is true of most cheap pedals.

Tone is good for the price. The sound is good for 60’s style leads although it drives a little too heavily for me rhythm wise.

Seems ok for this price, although I think the switches days are numbered.

OK, Now I have seen some nasty comments about this pedal but I want you, the reader to keep in mind that there is the fx/69 model the earlier version, and the fx/69B model, the later version. The fx69b is adds more color to your tone in comparison to the previous version. It in my opinion sounds better. Here’s a tip to all the people complaining about all the noise it makes, turn it down a notch, stop crankin’ the grunge setting, turn up the low and down the high, set the level to the correct amount. If done this will and should do justice to the sound wanted. I want you to also keep in mind what your amp settings are at HIGHS, MIDS, LOWS/EQ.

Well, the product does work, for about a year, then you basically have to stomp on it to make it switch from clean to dirty. The product promises a hard Grunge sound, but all I’ve ever got is a loud, high pitched sound that makes it hard to tell the difference between notes. Please stay away from this pedal, you have been warned.

To get straight to the point, sound quality sucks on this. When you have this pedal clicked on, my only advice would be to not pick any of the strings or you get a hard “SCRAPE” sound. It sounds terrible. No matter what you do with this pedal’s controls, you always get a high pitched screeching sound. It makes the amp sound like crap.

Yeah, I’ve had problems, the thing won’t click over to clean from dirty, or vise versa unless you stomp on it about thirty times. Sure it comes in a hard case, but the plastic switch button easily pops out.

You do not get the sound you think you are going to get. I would say stay away from this baby. This pedal says you will get that hard grunge sound, but at what expense? When you play with this pedal, it’s like one big, loud noise that sounds the same with whatever you play. Kurt Cobain himself, got one and threw his into the audience from being so disappointed.

If you are a fan of Nirvana (or other Seattle scene bands) and a starting guitarist you will be entranced by the seemingly perfect pedal for you, the DOD Grunge pedal. You may say this pedal sums up just the sound I’m looking for. But that’s before you plug it in. Once you have plugged it in, you will notice you get just as much interference as distortion! Not only do you struggle to cover your ears from high pitched tones, you also can’t distinguish any of the notes you are playing. If you want real distortion go with the Tech 21 SansAmp and spend the extra money... it’s worth it.

This pedal is extremely reliable, if what you are looking for is a crappy sound. This pedal can make it into the 30th century, but it’s a hunk of junk. I hate this pedal and want to use it as a paper weight. But for $29.99 I guess you can’t expect much. My pedal has always maintained its same sound quality if that counts for anything.
