Electro-Harmonix Big Muff (SustainPunch mod)

Electro-Harmonix Big Muff (SustainPunch mod)

  4. Price Paid: $110 total

  5. Performance

  6. This is the SustainPunch modified version of the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff fuzz pedal. SustainPunch modified Big Muffs for The Smashing Pumpkins. There are three knobs, volume, sustain (gain), and tone. If it were any easier, they’d have to market them to preschoolers.

  7. Performance Rating: 10

  8. Sound Quality

  9. Mega-fuzz, baby! The original Big Muff that I bought was okay, but kind of disappointing. Not much sustain, pretty muddy. Didn’t live up to expectations. After I had SustainPunch modify it though, it turned into a flame throwing, ax swinging, beefy wall of fuzz. Listen to Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream album, and you’ll hear what this sounds like. Gobs of sustain, great tone, more distortion. Sounds even better behind a compressor (compressor is on Korg Toneworks 411fx, w/noise reduction).

  10. Sound Quality Rating: 10

  11. Construction

  12. I can’t fault SustainPunch for the construction — Electro-Harmonix built it. It was made in Russia, and is not very solid, although it looks like it at first glance. As long as you don’t drop it, it should be fine.

  13. Construction Rating: 6
