  5. Performance

  6. Does everything it’s supposed to do. No loud “POPs” when you step on the switch, pots are nice and quiet. Very easy to use. Has controls for Distortion, Filter (backward operation tone control, turning knob to the left increases treble), and volume. Red LED so you know when it’s engaged (Duh! Like you need this for a distortion pedal?) Also, very cool glow in the dark graphics.

  7. Performance Rating: 10

  8. Sound Quality

  9. Now this is where things start the down hill slide. I bought one of the original Rat pedals back in ‘81 and the thing sounded incredible. Very versatile from bluesy dirt to metal shed tones. I don’t know what they changed in these things, they don’t sound the same. Don’t get me wrong, you can dial up some decent sounds out of this version but, as far as palm muted tight chugging for a Megadeth type riffing this box just won’t do. You’re either in muddy bass or mosquito tiny treble. For solo sounds, this is the ticket. Sustain for days. So, in conclusion, if you’re looking for a pedal to be your one and only distortion effect, this is not the way to go. For a kick in the sack on solos or AC/DC type riffing, this is the ticket.

  10. Sound Quality Rating: 8

  11. Construction

  12. Built like a tank! This bad boy has got to have one of the heaviest duty casings of any pedal available. Don’t drop it on your toes!

  13. Construction Rating: 10
