The Eighties brought us the “shredders” — players with mindboggling technique who constantly displayed their ability to do fretboard gymnastics. Unfortunately, in their desire to wow us, many of them forgot about making “music.” This was not the case with Joe Satriani. Sure, he has awesome technique, but he also has a great ear for melody. The Crush Of Love shows how impressive technique can blend with a catchy, repeating theme. The tasteful use of wah-wah makes it all the better.
