  6. I am new to the world of electric guitars, however I have played many acoustic guitars, both 6 and 12 strings. I originally was looking to buy an Epiphone Les Paul, that was before I saw one in the store. I took a look at it, picked it up, strummed a few chords, and my immediate thought was what a piece of junk. Then I noticed the Epiphone Dot. I loved the look of it, and after playing it, I was sold. The Dot I bought is Cherry finish, reminds me of Chuck Berry, now how much cooler can you get? As far as most reviews I’ve read on the Epiphone Dot and after my evaluation, this guitar is everything that it should be, and more. The fact that I didn’t have to spend $2000 on the Gibson model makes it a gem. The neck and frets are setup up perfectly. Everything about this guitar, just makes me want to play it. The action is relatively low, so it’s very easy to move around the fretboard, especially for me, since I am used to playing acoustic guitars. As a matter of fact, I’ve started playing songs, that I never even thought about attempting with my acoustic guitars.

  9. I am playing my Dot through a Vox Cambridge 15 amplifier, which I would highly recommend to anyone who wants that vintage electric sound. I don’t use any effects pedals or anything, so I can’t comment on how the guitar or the amplifier sounds with effects. With my Vox and Epi Dot I get a truly great vintage tone. I tend to like the bridge pickup selected, because I get that nice jangly twang that I like so much. With the bridge pickup on and a little gain turned up, I play T-Rex’ Jeepster, and to my ears it sounds nearly identical. I think Marc Bolan used a Gibson Les Paul and a Marshall Stack on that, but my Dot and Vox sound just the same, minus the volume. Both the bright jangle of the bridge and the crunchy sounds of the neck sound absolutely perfect to these ears. The tones and sounds that can be coaxed out of this setup is truly inspiring. Perfect for classic rock, blues, jazz, country and rockabilly.

  12. The reason I bought this guitar was because it didn’t seem cheap. I looked at a number of Les Pauls and Fender Strats and Tele’s, both authentic and copies, and they all seemed rather cheap to me. Especially when considering the price tags they had on them. However I do love the sound of the Fender Telecaster, and that’s probably the only thing I would have purchased other than my Epiphone Dot. Everything about my Epi Dot is very well made, the body is a gorgeous with perfect binding and the archtop is very pleasing to look at. As I said before, the frets and neck are perfect for my hands, which are average size. I know the high gloss maple necks on the Fender’s are very fast, but I’m not really into speed. The Dot has a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. I tend to baby my guitars, so I don’t think I’ll be slamming this one up against a wall anytime soon. When all is said and done, this guitar lives up to my expectations and provides me with the full package, great looks, great sound at a great price.
