Question

I am trying to learn to play guitar at age 31. I am wondering if I am foolish to try to learn something like this at my age. I know I'll never be a great player but I would love to be able to write some simple songs and play some basic rock and roll riffs. I see these kids playing guitar like they have been playing for years and I think to myself "Why didn't I learn to play when I was young?" -Blake

Answer

No, you are not foolish to start at age 31. Absolutely not! As long as your hands work and you have the desire, age is not a factor. Playing an instrument is one of life's greatest joys, no matter how old you are. Playing guitar well does take a lot of practice, but it doesn't take long to learn a few chords and play some simple songs. If you put in the time, you have the potential to be as good as any of those "kids." I honestly believe that playing guitar is 90% desire. The rest will come with time and practice.
