reader hero stories
Albert Collins
Albert Collins, the master of the Telecaster, was a genius whose guitar sang and wailed and cut like ice, all while he was a gentle beautiful man. He spoke to my friend backstage after a gig, comforting him as the friend had left his mother’s bedside to come to the show at the insistence of her nurses. His music moved me and his soul reached out for my friend’s in the green room afterwards.
I saw Albert play several times and he always spoke afterwards with the audience. He told stories on stage and off and had a groove to rock any booty! He is missed — and his album with Johnny Copeland and Robert Cray, Showdown, is still one of the finest American guitar blues albums ever made.

Maybe it was a concert, or a CD (or an LP for us older players), or a song on the radio. There is usually one defining moment when we hear a player for the first time and they become our hero.
Here is your chance to tell the story of how a particular player became your hero. If you have an interesting story to tell, simply email me the story. Be sure to include the name of your hero and your name.
