Duane Allman
I grew up with Greg and Duane. They were the first live band I ever heard. Duane was a prince and was always hooking musicians up with jobs. Besides being an incredibly innovative guitarist, he was a master business man, very driven and never lost sight of his goals. He constantly pushed the envelope, and most of us just followed his lead, or just tried to keep up. Greg, of course, was the voice — possibly one of the greatest blue eyed soul singers of our time. Duane called him Ba Bru.
I spent years hanging out playing gigs and jamming for days in their garage. Their mother supported them and protected all of us unconditionally. I would also like to mention Pete Carr, one of Duane's best proteges who went on to become his own man at Muscle Shoals [studios.] I was in the right place at the right time and learned much from my experiences with them.

Maybe it was a concert, or a CD (or an LP for us older players), or a song on the radio. There is usually one defining moment when we hear a player for the first time and they become our hero. Here is your chance to tell the story of how a particular player became your hero. If you have an interesting story to tell, simply email me the story. Be sure to include the name of your hero and your name.
