Fletcher Dragge

Fletcher Dragge

By Marck Ghiringhelli

Well I’m sure this is a very unconventional choice for a hero, seeing as my hero doesn’t do a lot of the cool soloing but he still manages to put feeling into his playing. My choice for a hero is Fletcher Dragge, otherwise known as the guitar player for the punk band Pennywise. Punk is very simple music to play on guitar, mostly just power chords over and over, but this man manages to put so much feeling into simple power chords it’s amazing.

He became my hero when I was at a Pennywise show. When the band took the stage I could tell this guy was special. The energy he created just onstage standing there was amazing. Another thing I respect about him, even though it has nothing to do with his playing, is how he moves around so much. He’ll jump around onstage, throw mic stands into the audience, and still play with the same energy, the same feeling. It’s simply amazing.

Maybe it was a concert, or a CD (or an LP for us older players), or a song on the radio. There is usually one defining moment when we hear a player for the first time and they become our hero.

Here is your chance to tell the story of how a particular player became your hero. If you have an interesting story to tell, simply email me the story. Be sure to include the name of your hero and your name.
